Louise2014-SmileWelcome to the part of my website where I’m not written about in the third person. By now, you have probably discovered enough buttons and links to gain an understanding of my credentials. These showcased experiences are just that— highlights within my greater journey as a choreographer, performer and instructor. I’d like to take a few lines to explain why I do what I do.

Choreography…
Making moves is a limitless expedition. I love creating something from nothing, and I equally love being given unique ingredients to bring a scene to life. The later is why I have found a home in film and television. Given a script, a set, actors or dancers, and I’m off to the races. I’m hooked on the craftiness of choreographing for camera, and how it enables storytelling and increases ‘wow factor’. I have had some incredible directors & producers as mentors, and continue to learn all I can from them. I believe one becomes exceptional at their own job when they understand the tasks and vision of those above them, so this will always be part of my quest.

Performance…
My love affair with dance and performing goes back as far as I can remember. I’ve had my trials, but none came with a fork in the road where dancing became an option. I love it too deeply. I love embodying a character. I love technical athleticism and exploring my body’s capabilities. I love how symbiotic movement and music can be. I believe things can be felt deeper through movement than words.

Instruction…
Instructing is the one realm of my job where the exchanges had are almost tangible. When I teach, my work does not sit in an editing room for a year; but rather, encourages growth and exploration in real time. I spent many of my younger, most formative years at ballet school, where a lot of what was asked of my body seemed insurmountable. With time and hard work, I climbed my mountains. I did not come out the other side a storybook ballerina; but instead, my own superhero mover with rich awareness that every dancer’s journey is individual. Because of this, I have tons to share, and any opportunity to contribute to another dancer’s journey is thrilling to me.
